Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Masha-Allah the girls who take part in our Sew Easy Club have been busy.
It's truly heartening to watch your skills developing, especially as most of you have never sewn before. Well done to all of you!

More photos to follow soon insha-Allah!

Thankyou for helping the Children of Gaza!

Bismillah Wassalatu wassalamu 'ala Rasulillah

Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

For several weeks, the students, staff and parents of Islamia Girls School, had been passionately fund raising, in order to help alleviate some of the suffering of the people of Gaza.

On behalf of Friends of Islamia, we would like to thank everyone for your time, effort and above all, your generous contribution.

Prior to our culminating event, we raised £8000 for Interpal and £8000 for Small Kindness, which will also be given to the victims of Gaza.

Through your generosity and support, the Charity Dinner and Auction evening held on Friday 27th February raised £41,700.

All of this amount will go through Islamic Relief in order to rebuild two schools in Gaza Insha’Allah.

Once the school buildings have been reopened we hope to link up with the students by setting up a pen pal scheme and sending Eid gifts and cards insha’Allah.

Allah promises to multiply everything that we give in charity, and surely Allah is true to His promise.

Allah SWT says in the Quran:

“Say: Verily my Lord enlarges and restricts the Sustenance to such of His servants as He pleases: and what you spend in charity He replaces it: for He is the Best of those who grant Sustenance”. 34 : 39

“The likeness of those who spend for Allah’s sake is as the likeness of a grain of corn, it grows seven ears every single ear has a hundred grains, and Allah multiplies (increases the reward of) for whom He wills, and Allah is sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower).” (2:261)

Mu'aadh bin Jabal (RA) related from the Prophet (SAW)
“Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” (Ahmad, Tirmidhi)

The Prophet (SAW) also said:
“The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his Sadaqah.” (Ahmad)

Most sincerely, on behalf of all the children of Gaza you have helped, are helping and will help, Jazakumullahu khairun.

Wassalam,
Friends of Islamia

Gaza Appeal

9 January 2009

Dear Parents,

Assalam Aliykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

I am writing to you at these most difficult times that we see the Ummah going through. We are confronted again, by a horror beyond proportion that the most oppressed people of Gaza are facing. The suffering that our brothers, sisters and their children are going through is beyond comprehension.

Our Lord Allah (SW) is the most merciful and he has sent our beloved prophet Muhammed (SAW) as a gift of mercy to the worlds. Our Prophet (SAW) said:

‘Show mercy to those who are on Earth, the one who is in Heaven will surely show you mercy’

Therefore, Islamia Girls School and Islamia Primary School are having a series of Fund Raising activities to share in helping those who are unable to help themselves.

I urge you, to please donate generously, to be amongst those whom Allah (SW) said about in the holy Quran;

‘’The righteous will dwell amid gardens and water springs. And will receive what their Lord shall give them. For they were doers of good. They used to sleep but little of the night.Praying at dawn for Allah’s pardon. And in their wealth the beggar and th e outcast had a due share’’ Surah 51 (15-19).

May Allah (SW) forgive us all for our shortcomings and help us help those who are in need. Wa Jazakum Allah Khair.

With Best Regards,
Wa Salaam,

Friends of Islamia

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

AssalumAlaikum!

First o fall I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to a group of Parents who have supported Friends of Islamia with their hearts and soul. Sister Sabera who volunteered to run the homework club last year and have already volunteered to run a Sewing club next year. Dr Waheeda Khan who volunteered to run the First Aid training last year and will do it again in 2009. Sister Yasmin for the donation of new microphomes for the school sound system. Sister Nada, Sister Zainab, Ms Ali, Mrs Khalida, Mrs Elahi – without their support we wouldn’t be where we are TODAY. A very SPECIAL thank you to Sister Ambreem Khan for organizing the EID FUN DAY and coordinating most of the fund raising activities for Friends of Islamia. Finally, thank you to Sister Rachida a year 7 parent who has volunteered to run an Interviewing Skills worshop to Y11 in Jan/2009.

I can not emphasize enough the fact that: Studies show that parental involvement in a child's education is one of the most important factors in raising student self-esteem and academic achievement.

We at Islamia school realize that each of our families is unique – with its own
priorities, needs, talents, and time constraints .- and Friends of Islamia try to provide as many different kinds of opportunities for parental involvement as possible. We do not need funding raising only. We need to know that you are interested in what we do. We need your skills and your suggestions. Put simply, we need YOU to be involved in our Parents Committee.

Friends of Islamia is a group of parents and teachers who have volunteered to support the school in maintaining its superb standards. We meet once every six weeks to discus fundraising ideas, extra curricular activities and also to hear parents’ input and insight into matters concerning the school.

IF you are still asking yourself , WHY should I JOIN Friends of Islamia? My answer to you is : To support the school that supports our daughters in so many ways
Few of us here this evening will run for Prime Minister of England or find a way to stop earthquakes. Even fewer of us will re-plant the rain forests or save the world. What we can all do, though, is ensure that our children are fit to take their places in that world.
I use the term our children because here at Islamia School, we believe we are an extension from home, we are all part of a big family. That is why I am so delighted to welcome you here today. I know that, together, we can make things happen. I know that, together, we can do the best for our children.

The students of today are tomorrow’s Ambassadors, Doctors, and Engineers. They may become a fashion designer or a banker. They may discover new planets or buried cities. Whatever they do, though, they will affect primarily their own families, friends, and those in their local communities. Together it is our job to see that they grow
up to be the kind of people you respect because of their Iman, their devotion to Islam, their consideration for others and I can see no better way of achieving this than supporting the school mission in a positive partnership.

Some of us have been more blessed than others and it makes good sense to share our blessings. We are not asking for millions. We are asking instead for what you can spare. If you can spare ONE hour of your time once a month or once a week, I would like to hear from you. If you can play chess, martial arts, football, talk about your profession as a career… we would like to hear from you too…... If you have experience with fundraising and would like to share your expertise with us, we would like to hear from you. If you can bake a cake and bring that to our meetings … we would be delighted to share that with you too.

If you wish to get more involved in your daughters education, be part of our mailing list , get more information on our activities, please send in your email or telephone No and we will keep in touch with you. Hope to hear from you soon, Inshallah!

On behalf of the school council, I would like to say THANK YOU to all parents here tonight for your support towards the success of this Charity Evening . Your contribution is real and it is effective. It helps and changes lives. It offers support and opportunity.
Please do not think that what you give, however small does not make a huge difference. It may be one brick in the pyramid but what is a pyramid if not a lot of bricks one by one put together? Like the pyramid, your contribution and vision hopefully will extend far into the future. It makes me feel very humble and proud to be here with you. To be a part of this wonderful energy that will make a very real difference to the lives of others.

We're here tonight to help children . To make their world a better place It doesn't matter who they are, their religion, gender, or race. The need our help so here we are. Together we can do so much. Give them the chances they deserve. Show that we care. The world is full of want and need and we can't change it all
But even if the change we make Is local or quite small
We've got together to make that change
Most sincerely, on behalf of all the children you have helped, are helping and will help, thank you so much

Before I finish , I would like to say Congratulations to Y11 for the fantastic job they have done so far. Raising funds is never easy. It involves a lot of hard work, a lot of team effort. By taking up this challenge, these girls have learned a few lessons that will be beneficial to them for years to come.: They have learned to work as a team, to work under pressure, to work within a time scale, they have learned to set a target and reach that goal. But above all – they have learned that the most important things in this life are actually NOT THINGS , but VALUES. They have learned that it is in GIVING that you actually GAIN.

CHARITY brings out the best and highest qualities in a person, which is really the object of existence according to Islam.

Y11 will be leaving the school soon , but I am sure this experience has taught these girls skills that they will need for the rest of their life. On behalf of all parents present here today, I would like to say : Well Done! You have made us proud , girls. May Allah bless you always.
Enjoy your evening!

The Battle of Hastings

History: A Battle of Hastings warrior - dressed up as a warrior of the period - visited Islamia Girls School to discuss the armours, weapons and clothing from the 1066 England under the reign of King Harold. The students had a chance to try on helmets, hold shields and feel the 15kl weight of the armour the warriors had to wear during the battle. A Q & A period followed after the display and speech and the students had an opportunity to discuss and compare armours from past and present times; how the Norman invasion affected England and the importance of the Domesday book. The workshop was lively and very interactive.

Welcome and Introduction

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Assalum Alaikum,

Friends of Islamia is a representative body comprising of parents and teachers of pupils at Islamia Girls’ Secondary School who have volunteered to support the school in maintaining its superb standards.

Those of you within the Muslim community will, we are sure, know the pioneering role that the Islamia Schools have taken in the education of Muslims in Britain. Our sister school, Islamia Primary School (VA) was founded in 1983 by Yusuf Islam and Islamia Girls’ Secondary School by him a few years later in 1989 with the Primary School being the first Muslim school to receive public funding.

Based in Queen’s Park Brent, North London, Islamia Girls’ Secondary School is a non profit making independent girls day school maintained and run by The Islamia Schools Trust. The Islamia School Trust is a charity registered in England and Wales (Registration no. 326042) and one of the founding members of the Association of Muslim Schools. The school offers a broad based national curriculum with lessons in Arabic, Quran and Islamic Studies. Currently the school has approximately 104 girl pupils between the ages of 11 to 16.

The school’s mission is to strive to provide the best education in a secure Islamic environment through the knowledge and application of the Quran and Sunnah. The school seeks to maintain excellence in academic standards whilst participating in many extra curricula and inter-faith activities to ensure that the pupils are not only strong and knowledgeable in their faith but also equipped to be fully integrated and positive members of the wider community.

The recent March 2006 OFSTED inspection report says: “Islamia Girls School provides good quality education for its pupils…The teaching is good and as a result the school enjoys a high rate of success in preparing pupils for the next stage of their education. The school provides a welcoming learning environment…” (Reference here.)

Studies show that parental involvement in a child's education is one of the most important factors in raising student self-esteem and academic achievement.
FOI’s main goal is to have as many parents as possible supporting our students to be highly qualified for our dynamic, fast-paced 21st century environment.

By helping Islamia School, parents will be providing the tools we need to guide our Muslim students to not only succeed, but to excel in their chosen fields of study INSHAA ALLAH.

We realize, however, that each of our families is unique – with its own priorities, needs, talents, and time constraints -- and so we try to provide as many different kinds of opportunities for parental involvement as possible. Please review the volunteer opportunities suggested in our Get Involved letter and let us know how you would like to help.

JazakAllah.
